It can be hard to keep family up to date when I travel. So I send newsletters instead. Here are the most recent letters.
MALAYSIA and INDONESIA!
Our trip to Malaysia to visit my uncle and a sudden realization that just across the strait of Penang, Malaysia was Medan, Indonesia and from Medan, we could explore the island of Sumatra. Sumatra is known outside of Indonesia for the great tsunami that hit some years ago and left Aceh, a city at the tip of the island, in rubble. On Sumatra island are the some of the last wild Orangutans in the world.
My favorite place in the world is where everything stands still. In El Golco. Somewhere tucked in between valleys, at the foot of the Sierra Nevada in Granada, there is a small village of 20 people where goats are kings. Winter, Summer, Spring, Fall, in El Golco are unlike anywhere else. I go back to El Golco every time I’m in Spain. In El Golco, I find the kind of serenity that people seek in remote Buddhist temples and Christian monasteries.
